When to stop extraction? - 2007/08/08 03:14 I am using espresso coffee machine at home and they are great. But I never know when to stop the extraction process. I have one of those "shot glasses" and I can never get a good shot that can fit on the measuring line. Any advice?

Re:When to stop extraction? - 2007/08/08 15:58 When extracting coffee. You have to measure the time it takes for 30mLs of coffee (shot) to be extracted.

Perfect shot is between 25-30seconds depending on what coffee beans you are using and how weak/strong you like your coffee. I personally prefer 28seconds.
You should test and experiment and find out what you like.

Keep in mind what Express yourself said in previous post. Keep the amount of coffee you put in your basket constant and adjust your grind to change extraction time.

I'm not sure what you mean about the "line" of your shot glass, how it never gets to the line? I'm assuming that you are over-extracting? therefore 30seconds would pass and you only have 20mLs of coffee?
If that's the case, change your grind slightly coarser and try again.

Good Luck!
