Vacuvin Containers - 2007/08/07 16:05 For any serious coffee lover, a Vacuvin coffee bean container are a necessity!!

These containers have a suction tool which extracts the air from the container to reduce oxidisation.

They are rather expensive at $45 a pop that holds 500g but worth every penny. Not widely available but try your local coffee roaster.

Re:Vacuvin Containers - 2007/08/08 03:03 I have quite a few of these containers. They are very good for storing whole coffee beans. I found that they are not so good for storing ground freshly roasted beans as they pop open easily. I think the reason is freshly roasted coffee beans give off gas, making the vacuum suction fail.
As I live in a hot and humid part of the world, I found that storing the beans in the freezer is a great way to keep them fresh. It also makes the vacuum container less likely to pop open. One thing to note is it takes time to defrost. My experience is around 20mins defrost time is best and you can see a noticeable difference in the crema.
Never use these containers for air travel. You can guess what can happen.
