Help Choose a Bean

Need Help to Choose a Coffee Bean? Try These Tips:

Tip #1 - New to Buying Beans?

If you are new to buying gourmet, freshly roasted coffee beans, start with blends!

Blends consist of beans from two or more ‘single origin’ beans and are designed to achieve a balance between different flavours and cover undesirable characteristics of particular beans. Therefore they generally have a more balanced and complex taste.

Tip #2 – “Taste” a Region.

Beans from a ‘single origin’ are coffees from different plantations from the one region. The origin of a bean can greatly affect the taste of coffee. The type of soil and different climate conditions all contribute to give a different taste.

We have a variety of ‘single origin’ beans from the following regions:

Latin America (Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Peru);
Asia Pacific (East Timor, India, Java, Papua New Guinea, Sumatra, Timor) and
Africa/Arabica (
Ethiopia, Kenya, Mocha)

Tip #3 – Own a Plunger?

Generally light roasts are more acidic.
They are more suitable in a plunger than in an espresso machine.
This is not a set rule, it's a general guideline.  Some people like light roast in espresso machines.

Tip #4 – Suitable for all Coffee Makers.

Medium to dark roast are great in espresso machines!  But it doesn't mean they aren't good in plungers as well.

Tip #5 – Like Strong Coffees?

Generally the darker the roast, the stronger it gets.

Tip #6 – Want Fresh Beans?

The less processed the beans, the longer they store.
Green beans last forever, roasted whole coffee beans last months, ground coffee last weeks.

So, buy a grinder and freshly roasted whole beans! Grind your coffee just before you drink it if you can.

Explore!

Coffee is grown in more than 50 countries. Just like wine, beans from different regions will have a variety of tastes according to the different climate conditions.
Explore and choose what your favourite is!
